In a time when violence and evil have visited our lives how does the gospel message of Jesus Christ
call us to respond? How is God present to us? How do we live His message of love and reconciliation
and at the same time seek justice? How do we find healing for our Pain?

• Day Two: Forgiveness as the Path to peace - Reconciliation availalbe.
• Day Three: Healing the Human Heart - Healing Mass

Franciscan Fr. Martin Bednar, O.F.M. will be the facilitator of our parish mission this year.

The Knights of Columbus Fish Fry Dinner will be held on Friday, February 26 from. 5:30-8:00. Ticket prices are: Adults $8.00; children,$5.00; families (2 adults, 3 or more children), $30.00. The menu will include fried fish, French fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, coffee, iced tea, and soft drinks. (Grilled cheese sandwiches will be available.)
Tickets for the dinner will be sold at each mass on the weekends of February 13th and 20th. (Take-out dinner tickets are available.) Tickets will not be sold the night of the dinner. If you have any questions please contact Richard Ingram at 329-4638 or email rich at:rcingram@comporium.net.

WHAT IS THE BSA?
The Bishop’s Stewardship Appeal (BSA) is a primary source of funding to help sustain and expand ministries in the 116 parishes and missions and 32 Catholic Schools and agencies throughout the diocese. The diocese cannot subsidize all the necessary programs on its own and asks the parishes and missions to further help our brothers and sisters in need.

WHY DO WE NEED THESE MINISTRIES AND PROGRAMS?
The Catholic Church serves the needs of many people in our local diocese and beyond. While some of these services are offered at the parish level, it is often more effective when many join together in ministry and service of the people of the diocese.

WHAT SHOULD I GIVE?

• A Gift of Prayer

Pray for the church, for our diocesan family, and for all people who support or are supported by the BSA.

• Time and Talent

Volunteer in your parish, school, community, and in diocesan ministries.

• A Sacrificial Gift

Consider making a pledge or one-time financial gift. Please continue working toward your Stewardship Commitment of 10%, designating 5% to your
parish, 1% to the diocese, and 4% to other charities.

Monsignor Stuart Swetland, Director of Homiletics and Pre-Theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg MD and Father Mark Lawlor, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Charlotte, will lead a Lenten Day Of Reflection

Pope Benedict XVI has a message for priests of the Catholic Church: they must proclaim the gospel by not only having a website, but by blogging and utilizing new web communication tools.

The 265th Pope of the Catholic Church has been an unexpectedly strong proponent of social media. Last year, he launched a YouTube channel, and six months ago, he released Facebook and iPhone apps to spread the Church’s message. It looks like that he hopes Catholic priests will follow his digital example.

In his message, the Pope acknowledges that priests face new challenges due to cultural shifts that have brought the conversation online. Thus, priests must do more than just take the Word of the gospel to the web.

Here’s a small excerpt from the entire message from the Pope (read the entire message here):

“The spread of multimedia communications and its rich “menu of options” might make us think it sufficient simply to be present on the Web, or to see it only as a space to be filled. Yet priests can rightly be expected to be present in the world of digital communications as faithful witnesses to the Gospel, exercising their proper role as leaders of communities which increasingly express themselves with the different “voices” provided by the digital marketplace. Priests are thus challenged to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources (images, videos, animated features, blogs, websites) which, alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization and catechesis.”

We have to give the Pope high marks for his push to make the Church more effective in the digital realm. While the Pope is not on Twitter, his Pope2you initiative is definitely a step in the right direction. He clearly knows that reaching young believers requires going to the places where they spend their time and converse. More and more, that is social media.

Each day more CRS staff from around the globe arrive in Haiti, joining our existing staff of just over 300. Our headquarters building in Haiti was damaged but did not collapse. While aftershocks continued—including a 6.1 temblor this morning— staff slept outside and worked at desks pulled into the streets.

Despite enormous logistical challenges, one week after the devastating earthquake CRS staff has unloaded 120 containers (2100 metric tons) of vegetable oil and grains from the U.S. government onto the only operating wharf in Port-au-Prince. We are in the process right now of arranging for secure transport to our warehouse, where it will be distributed to the growing number of camps.

CRS has been asked by the United Nations to lead the response at one of the first formally organized camps, located at a golf course, where as many as 50,000 people are sleeping every night. CRS has arranged to supply the camp with water, food, and plastic sheeting for shelter, which continue to be trucked in from CRS warehouses in the neighboring Dominican Republic, where volunteers are working continuously to keep additional relief supplies coming.

CRS has formed six medical teams to provide health care at shelters and area hospitals and CRS teams have already distributed medical supplies and drugs. In addition, Project C.U.R.E. has donated 3000 pounds of additional medical supplies that are en route.

The Marriage Anniversary Celebration is an opportunity to honor all married couples, but with a special focus on those who are celebrating long-term marriages. The married couple will re-affirm their love and commitment to each in a group ceremony.

Bishop Robert Guglielmone and Father Mitch Pacwa from EWTN will officiate.  A reception will follow.
